Joy Haertig, Pastor

Upon meeting Joy it is evident that she embraces hope, strength and truth. Her life is based in faith, love and God. She truly cares. As a pastor Joy promotes open theological exploration while nurturing a deep commitment and belief in prayer, spiritual deepening and service. Not only has she spent the last 31 years as an ordained minister, she grew up as the daughter of a UCC minister. Sarah Riskind, Music Director

Sarah Riskind is a choral conductor, composer, vocalist, violinist, and music educator originally from Boston. She recently received her DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) in choral conducting from the University of Washington. With previous degrees from Williams College and the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Sarah has directed ensembles at the University of Washington, the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Williams College, the German International School of Boston, and the First Parish Church of Berlin, MA; she has also assistant-conducted the Renaissance choir Convivium Musicum and the Boston Children’s Chorus. Her compositions (www.sarahriskind.com) have been performed by choruses and chamber ensembles in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, and Washington. She enjoys folk and classical improvisation on violin, which led her to pursue doctoral research on choral improvisation in addition to Renaissance music and choral arrangements of Sephardic Jewish melodies. Through her work as choral director and faculty at The Walden School (www.waldenschool.org), an inspiring summer program in NH for creative musicians, she has become an advocate for developing musicianship and improvisational skills in choirs of all ages and abilities.
